Both! But frenemies who treat each other with respect. This gets lost during the middle of Season 6.
"Intervention" which is ironic because Spike's mostly with the Buffybot, but I adore the end so. Or "Afterlife"; the entire episode is just full of so much wonderful interaction between them. My least favorite will also probably be "Seeing Red".
Their first genuine caring contact on the backporch at the end of "Fool For Love"; their first real kiss at the end of "Intervention"; and their fiery hands at the end of "Chosen". (Though bonus: the end scene when Buffy rescues Spike in "Showtime" and the way they silently communicate, the look in their eyes, GAH.)
I love them both so much. Buffy's been my favorite character for forever, so I might be slightly partial to her, but I love Spike to a ridiculous degree also.

Season 6. It wasn't a healthy time, but it was sure an interesting time.
I like it all, but the way they behaved in Older and Far away - teasing and affectionate but kinda snarky too - is my favorite of all.Do you prefer them as frenemies or lovers?

Least: Same Time, Same Place (in the sense that she knows he has a soul and is crazy, but ignores him). I can't choose Seeing Red because, while the AR is their worst moment, the conversation that led up to it is actually pretty fascinating/touching at times.

Least: This one is easy, though: Seeing Red.

1. When Buffy rescues Spike in Showtime. The look she gives him is so warm and reassuring. From that point I never doubted that she loved him.
2. Dead Things door moment. The music was amazing and so was the concept of a "wall" between them. You can tell that Buffy's affection for Spike is growing.
3. Smashed fight/love scene or the two of them just lying on the bed together in Touched. I know those moments are complete contrasts, but I love them equally!
... I completely forgot about their flaming handclasp in Chosen. Well, I love that one, too.
Who do you prefer Buffy or Spike?
Spike. To me, he is the most interesting character. And strangely enough he is what makes Buffy interesting to me.
