New trailer is up on the Apple site (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/marvel/thorthedarkworld/). I couldn't figure out how to embed it. I like the look of the film and am definitely intrigued that it seems like it'll mostly be taking place off of Earth this time. The Asgard stuff was definitively the more engaging story in the first one.

How do I get thrown in a cell with Loki? Do I actually have to do bad things?

Haha, apparently Loki's hair made tumblr flip out last night. I was just flipping out alone in my room. It looks really good. Will Lady Loki will make an appearance?

I think it really looks good and that Loki seems a rockstar on rehab. He's so pale!

Well I figure what's the fun in everyone gushing over something, so I'm here to bring my dissenting opinion of the trailer. Now I'll freely admit that Thor 2 is for me The Wolverine of Phase 2, the movie that I'm pretty much like yeah, it exists and I'll probably go see it, but I have zero hype. This trailer was a chance to change that, the Iron Man 3 trailer has made me excited for that movie and I didn't like Iron Man 2 way more than I didn't like Thor.
The trailer just felt like it wasn't selling it as good as it could have been for most of it, and then Loki happened. Here's the thing, I like Loki, I though what they did in Thor and Avengers was good, I'm just at a point where I feel like they should really give him a break. There's so many other characters they could bring in and have be interesting, but we get Loki again. It may just be kneejerk and I'll have to rewatch the trailer but when Loki showed up any hype the trailer had build disappeared instantly and was replaced by some not this again.
Now not to be entirely negative, I think Loki can actually be put to good use as the team-up with the heroes that could turn on them at anytime, way better than Spike anyway, mostly because he is morally ambiguous, he could go one way or the other, sort of like Two-Face. I just wish they would have given him a break of a movie before pulling this it's just a little much for me, I hope that they at least keep him on the hero side for this movie at least. I don't want hey let's have Loki be evil and have to fight him for the third time.

I used to have hair like that... just a lil straighter and definitely cleaner. I've still got some of the stuff that I used to use on my locks. :)

Anyone else seen this? Watched it on opening weekend (life's been crazy busy so I've been terribly absent) and while I enjoyed it, there were definitely issues with the narrative.
One of the more prominent issues for me were the lack of a real character arc for Thor. Unlike the first film, where he basically goes from arrogant brawler to a hero willing to sacrifice his life and his happiness for the greater good, here, he's basically the solid good guy throughout.
Another problem I had was with the dropped plot threads that resulted in slack dramatic tension. For example, why bother introducing the possibility of a Thor/Sif romance if you don't pay it off. You then have Jane on Sif's turf, and still... absolutely nothing. Sif basically has something like 20 lines in the entire film. The rest of her presence is just squandered on having her march about looking like a badass, which she does pretty well.
And then... the roles that the women played... You have Sif, being nothing more than a soldier. You have Jane, who's basically a damsel in distress for a huge portion of the film. I get that the film was aiming for some levity, but still, the abandonment issues could have been better explored. Instead, we get 2 slaps, which while amusing... ya know...
Darcy was basically employed to the same effect as the previous film, which whatever... she's funny, I can let it sit at that.
And then, Frigga, whose ingenuity and deception Loki inherited, is given a couple of great moments, but her death, while noble is pretty much just a plot device to move the action forward, to get the brothers to work together, and really, mostly in service of Loki's character. Which is great for Tom Hiddleston fodder, coz he's so damn good in the role. He revels in it about as much as RDJ does as Tony Stark.
And the villains... if the frost giants of the previous installment were kinda meh, the dark elves are even less menacing. They basically wanna turn the world back to darkness, they snarl at each other in elvish, and they strut about like B-grade villains. I dunno... there's never really any sense of menace, even when they come crashing down to earth and destroy a city. I was not expecting Avengers level of destruction, and destruction does not menace make, necessarily. It's just, the stakes, even at their highest, never really felt all that scary?
So those were the nagging issues. The good? As previously stated, Hiddleston as Loki = aces! And some of the best moments are when he and Thor interact directly. They're brothers in spirit, even if they aren't in blood. The bickering, the annoying each other, the mutual pain they feel for the death of their mother... all gold. The special guest star moment is comedy gold, but given Hiddleston's ability to do impersonations (see below), it would have been a less visual, but entirely more awesome if he had impersonated the character without morphing into him.

I really enjoyed it. The things that bothered me were so minor that they didn't affect my enjoyment of the film. I don't think it surprised me at all, but things rarely do now :(

The film ending, or are you talking about the second short scene after the credits?
I thought that the film ending was pretty predictable, actually. It was well acted, but I guess I wasn't surprised at all in the end. I think I would rather it had been a little more ambiguous, with Loki, still in Odin's form, saying something that recalls something he had said before, instead of the morph.

I honestly don't think enough people would have gotten that.
I was referring to the film ending, which wasn't shocking but just well executed. Simple does it with these type of movies.

A while ago, I said the above. Turns out, they actually did film Hiddleston in complete Cap regalia. Check it out HERE (http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2014/01/27/loki-dons-captain-america-threads-in-deleted-thor-the-dark-world-scene/).
