Any truly great story is referenced all over the place in other literature, be it a play, a book, or a tv show. Buffy is no exception... where have you seen or heard Buffy referenced in other media?
I'll kick things off with this little gem I found in X-Factor: Time and a Half (a comic book). Jamie Maddrox finds himself 80 years in the future, talking to Ruby Summers (Cyclops' daughter)...
Ruby: WHY was he worth this effort again?
Jamie: Wait. You said... Ruby SUMMERS? Are you related to --?
Ruby: Scott?
Jamie: I was gonna say Buffy, but okay...

John Crichton mentions Buffy in Farscape. Oh I wish I remembered the exact quote, but he's a Buffy fan and it's fantastic.

She's been mentioned in Charmed and Supernatural ("What would Buffy do?" was used in the later).

I know Rory (from the Gilmore Girls) mentioned Spike & Drusilla in an ep. I don't remember which episode it was though.
I also remember in a South Park episode that Stan's sister mentioned that she was going to go watch Buffy. It was in one of the earlier seasons.
I know there are several mentions of Buffy on Robot Chicken. Some really funny stuff on there.
And I also remember that in Season 1 of True Blood Sam mentions something about needing Buffy around to take care of all the vampires. I don't remember the exact quote (it's been awhile since I rewatched season 1), but it was cool to hear it on this show.

I love that one, it's from the episode But Not As Cute As Pushkin:
Paris: I'm putting myself out there, Rory.
Rory: It's 11 o'clock at night, who are you hoping to hook up with now, Spike and Drusilla?
My favourite Buffy reference is from Friends. When the gang discover Phoebe's twin is a pornstar, they rent her movie Buffay the Vampire Layer. Hehehe.

Here's the Buffy reference in Supernatural, in the episode Hell House.

Honestly, the first minute could've been cut out, and some of the ending, but that's basically it.

Also the little sketch in an episode of Robot Chicken about Sarah telling another dollperson what Buffy season eight would be like in which SMG, naturally, does the voice. It's a fun poke at the show.
Also in Malcolm in the Middle, Francis was at the phone with his girlfreind and she was watching Buffy in TV.
I also remember seeing the movie "Johnson Family Vacation" (I think that's the right title, it's been years since I've seen it), and the daughter was watching the Buffy episode 'Chosen' in their hotel room.

Anarchy Online had an item called the Wonderful Marble Statue of the Goddess Buffy Summers.
In Fable II, one of the optional quests your Hero can undertake consists of helping a farmer in Brightwood Farm called Giles take revenge upon a bandit called Ripper, or helping Ripper expand his operations by killing Giles. This may be a reference to Rupert 'Ripper' Giles (Farmer Giles' son is called Rupert).

This was the first reference that came to my mind. It was from episode 3 of S1..."You know what I really wish would come to Marthaville? Huh? Buffy. Or Blade. Any one of those bad ass vampire killers to take care of Mr. Bill Compton, that’s what I wish."
There was also the Smallville episode "Thirst", that was homage to Buffy. The lead vampire in the episode was blond and her name was "Buffy Sanders". James Marsters was also in the episode as a college professor. I remember Clark was telling him how there were vampires on campus and he responds "Clark, there's no such thing as Vampires."
This is one of my favourites. It's from Spaced.

I was at my friends' place this evening, we watched The Simpsons - it was the episode where Lisa almost becomes wicca - she was doing a little research online and this

^^ That might be the most awesome thing ever.
Just thought of another one, in the movie P.S. I Love You, when the main character Holly is trying to decide her next career path, she draws up a bunch of charts for various jobs, one of which is "Vampire Slayer". Made even funnier by the fact that Holly is played by Hilary Swank who was in the original film and that the movie also features James Marsters in a small role.

AngelFaith you might also note that in P.S. I Love You the main character and her husband wear Claddagh rings as their wedding rings (you wouldn't believe how much I squeed when I noticed that!)
In Coupling season four there's a character who owns a sci-fi book shop called 'Hellmouths'. Might not be a link to Buffy, but I don't think I've encountered any form of Hellmouths in other media...

buffy is also referenced in the family guy star wars spoof its a trap when stewie and carter are talking about seth greens career.
Carter Pewterschmidt as Emperor Palpatine: Yeah. Boy, that guy rubs me the wrong way. I mean, has he ever made anything successful? Greg the Bunny, Four Kings, and that godawful puppet show. It's on, like, channel 100 or something.
Chris Griffin as Luke Skywalker: Well, I think he's had some successes. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was successful.
Carter Pewterschmidt as Emperor Palpatine: It was not popular. Entertainment Weekly said it was popular, but it wasn't. Hardly anybody watched that show.
Stewie Griffin as Darth Vader: Yeah, I never caught it.

This may not be a direct reference but I do think someone that works in for WWE is a Buffy fan, could also mostly be due to the fact that Freddie Prinze Jr works for them, as they've used the song from Chosen many times.

They also use to have a web show where two guys would explain slang terms. One of the words happened to "Wiggin" one time.

Also in Malcolm in the Middle, Francis was at the phone with his girlfreind and she was watching Buffy in TV.
Incidentally, I've watched it yesterday, and the episode is Francis Escapes (Season 1 episode 7).
It was written by Linwood Boomer, creator of the series.
By the way, in the French version of Top Chef at least 2 musics from BtVS have been used: Close you eyes and The Final Fight. They also used music from Serenity, but that may be off-topic.
And I always wondered why there's no reference to Buffy or Angel on Bones. I mean, David is producer on the show, he should have enough influence to include some references in the scripts!

I imagine these references happen when one of the writers is a fan ... and that an actor/producer throwing his weight around to get the writers to add references to his other shows would be seen as sort of tacky.

Well, the Hyperion Hotel was mentioned in Season 2. And besides, Booth has quite a few traits that remind me of Angel

Elena: “A boy scout slash vampire slayer."

There is a reference in the film Man of the House, with Tommy Lee Jones. Jones steps in to stop a couple girls from getting into a fight and one of them says "I was about to go all Buffy on their A**es."
Buffy is also referenced in the Sookie Books (I think its the one this most recent season was based off of).

It's not a reference, because it's actually the person's real name, but it amused me anyway. The new Sarah Michelle Gellar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringer_(TV_series)) series includes an actress named Tara Summers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tara_Summers).

Buffy is mention in Bring It On when one of the clovers says something like "So when we gonna go buffy on their a**es?" which is funny cause they are talking about Eliza Dushku charater.
It is mention in The White Chicks when Marcus refers to Latrell as "Buffy the White Girl Slayer"
In The New Guy another Eliza Dushku film she is a cheerleader and they singing the cheer from Buffy The Vampire Slayer Movie "how funky is your chicken"
In the book Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella she mentions Buffy the Vampire Slayer don't know the exact quote but my sister show me it haha : )

And I'd bid too high on The Price Is Right

I'd be depressed like Morrissey
And slay by Buffy every week

I've been watching Eureka recently, where David Greenwalt is a consulting producer. The character Dr Douglas Fargo is a big Sarah Michelle Gellar fan, so the show is rife with references to Sarah and/or Buffy on his part.
The first I caught was about the voice of the house (which is named S.A.R.A.H) that Jack Carter (the main character) lives in...
MARSHALL JACK CARTER: Now, if we could do something about the voice.
DOUGLAS FARGO: Sorry, it's temp audio. Just waiting to hear back from Sarah Michelle Gellar's people. Rar!
MARSHALL JACK CARTER:I don't even know how to respond to that.
He also apparantly has a Sarah Michelle Gellar doll and the computer system at Global (the company he works for) came up with some Buffy fan-sites, which Fargo denied having anything to do with. Apparantly the episode "Purple Haze" is rife with Buffy references. But that airs on Monday. Just before Buffy - which amuses me a little (though I wait for the five hour Buffy omnibus on a Saturday rather than watching it during the week).

A line from the second X-Men movie (X2) caught my attention. One of the mutants "comes out" to his parents and his mother says the following: "Have you tried not being a mutant?" I can't help but wonder if there was a Buffy fan among the writers (Becoming pt. 2: "Have you tried not being a slayer?"). I know it's not a direct reference, but maybe it can be considered a homage of some kind.

There was a Buffy reference in the ongoing TV show Supernatural in it's first season. Something like this:
Ed: "No! Forget it, I'm not going back in there again!"
Harry: "You are a ghost hunter. This are ticket to the bigtime. Money, fame, sex ... with girls."
Ed: "But I'd never actually seen a real ghost before!"
Harry: "Be brave. WWBD. What would Buffy do? Huh?"
Ed: "Buffy. What. Would. Buffy. Do. I know Ed, but she's stronger than me ..."
I still lol at this scene with their amatuer ghost hunter selves. xD
